Bicyclists are usually wearing very little protection when out on the road. As such, if a bicyclist is struck by a vehicle, significant injuries can occur. A bicyclist never can be sure there is not a negligent driver on the roadway. As such, it is highly recommended that a bicyclist take as many safety precautions as possible, including wearing a helmet, checking your equipment before taking a bike ride, always keeping your hands on the bike, wearing reflective materials, so you are easily visible to drivers, knowing your signals and using them, and using dedicated bike lanes.
