JCPS Bus Crash Leads to 8 Elementary School Students Hospitalized

Per WDRB, on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, just after 4 p.m., a crash involving a Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) bus resulted in injuries to eight JCPS students.  The wreck involved a JCPS bus and a minivan.  The wreck happened outside Rangeland Elementary School in the Newburg neighborhood.  Per JCPS, the wreck involved bus No. 1277, which was occupied by 17 students from Indian Trail Elementary School. Eight students were transported by ambulance to hospitals for treatment.  Six were transported to Norton Children’s Hospital, while two were taken to Norton Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

According to the Okolona Fire Protection District, three people that occupied the minivan were also taken to the hospital.  The children that occupied the bus that was not injured were taken inside the fire station.  First responders to the scene let these children try on some fire gear and wear plastic fire hats to try to calm the situation.  The bus driver did not sustain physical injuries but was a bit shaken up.

If you or a loved one have been injured in a bus accident, you may be able to recover compensation from one or more parties.  In order to do so, you must file a claim with the at-fault party (or parties) insurance company.  If you retain our help with a bus crash case, we will submit all required paperwork to the insurer, gather documents and evidence in support of your claim, handle all communications and negotiates with the insurance company(s), and, if necessary, file a lawsuit against the at-fault party(s).

Bus accident lawsuits can often be difficult to resolve.  Sometimes liability can be difficult to determine, and there are several other complex legal issues to consider.  For example, if the bus driver was liable for the crash, the bus company is also usually liable for the accident that occurred while the driver was acting within the scope of their employment unless the bus driver is an independent contractor.  A bus accident often causes significant losses for the bus company.  Thus, you can expect the bus company, its insurance company, and lawyers to fight extremely hard to minimize the amount you recover for your damages.

In many cases, the bus company’s insurance company will offer you a minimal settlement very shortly after the accident.  It is highly recommended that you do not accept this settlement offer without speaking with our office first.  It’s very likely that the offer is much lower than what you are entitled to should you retain a lawyer to pursue your claim further.  At Meagher Injury Lawyers, we will negotiate until you get what we believe to be the maximum compensation you are entitled to, or we will take it to court.

If you or a loved family member is a victim of a bus accident, Meagher Injury Lawyers may be able to help.  The initial consultation with our office is always free, and if we end up representing you nothing is owed by you unless we win your case.  Hiring our firm may give you the leverage you need to recover fair compensation for your injuries.  Don’t Wait, Call Tate! today for your free consultation for your bus accident injury claim.
