According to WHAS11, the driver of a car struck a bicyclist around 5:29 a.m. on September 28, 2022 at 2426 Outer Loop near Fairdale in Louisville.  The incident is currently under investigation by the Louisville Metro Police Department.  One person was taken to the hospital, and there is no indication that the driver left the scene of the incident.

While bicyclists are entitled to share the roads, not all drivers of automobiles respect those privileges.  Drivers often use aggressive maneuvers like speeding up and tailgating a bicyclist or speeding to drive around the bicyclist.  Sometimes these lead to poor decisions that sadly result in catastrophic consequences.  A bicycle accident lawyer in Louisville can help cyclists hold these negligent drivers and their insurance companies accountable for their careless actions.

Hit-and-run accidents are unfortunately more common in bicyclist vs. vehicle accidents as opposed to vehicle vs. vehicle accidents.  In hit-and-run accidents, it is especially important to do an investigation to see if that at-fault driver can be tracked down.  Nearby businesses may have surveillance footage of the accident that would need to be preserved to locate the at-fault driver.  Or some roadways have traffic cameras that may have depicted the accident on video.  A Louisville bicycle accident lawyer can investigate a hit-and-run accident to attempt to locate the at-fault driver.

If the at-fault driver is not located in a hit-and-run accident, you still may have an injury claim to pursue.  If you or a family member in which you live own a vehicle that is covered by an automobile insurance policy that has uninsured motorist coverage, you may be able to pursue an uninsured motorist coverage claim under that policy for your medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering, among other damages.  Also, per Kentucky law, the automobile insurer cannot raise the premium rates for the automobile insurance policy if you pursue an uninsured motorist claim for an accident that was not your fault.  If you are unsure if you have uninsured motorist coverage on your policy, speak with a Louisville lawyer who can contact all potential insurers to find out if any insurance policies exist in which you can pursue a claim for uninsured motorist coverage.
