This is Kentucky Injury Attorney Tate Meagher with the Meagher Law Office. Here are my top three pieces of advice for motorcyclists.

1. Have Health Insurance

You don’t want to put a severe financial strain on yourself or your family due to medical bills piling up if you are injured in a motorcycle accident. Having health insurance can help mitigate these financial burdens.

2. Consider Purchasing No-Fault Benefits

Consider purchasing no-fault benefits on your motorcycle insurance policy. These are also called Personal Injury Protection (PIP) Benefits. While automobile insurance policies in Kentucky require insurers to include this type of coverage, insurers are not required to include this type of coverage on motorcycle policies. This type of coverage can help you pay for medical bills and/or lost wages if injured in a motorcycle accident, regardless of who is at fault for the accident, provided the motorcyclist has this coverage in place.

3. Purchase Uninsured and Underinsured Motorist Coverage

Purchase uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage on your motorcycle insurance policy. If the at-fault driver of your motorcycle accident is uninsured, you can seek compensation for your damages under uninsured motorist coverage. Additionally, if the at-fault driver does not have enough insurance to compensate you for your injuries and damages such as medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering, you can then pursue compensation under your underinsured motorist insurance coverage.
