Did you know that if you are injured in a hit-and-run motor vehicle accident, you may still be able to bring a personal injury claim for uninsured motorist benefits? At the end of the day, it is wise to check your automobile insurance policy to make sure you have underinsured motorist coverage on your vehicle. Not only will such coverage protect you and your family in the event you are injured in a collision with a driver that has no insurance, but it may also protect you and your family if you are in a crash with a vehicle where the driver flees the scene after the collision occurs.

If you or a loved one have been injured in a hit-and-run car accident, your insurance company is not going to recommend to you that you file an uninsured motorist claim. You will need to request that your insurer set up such a claim so that you or your loved one can pursue compensation for your injuries under the uninsured motorist coverage portion of your automobile insurance policy. Dealing with insurance companies can be difficult, and nothing usually happens quickly, even if it is your own insurance company.

It’s important that you follow proper procedures when pursuing an uninsured motorist claim, or your case could eventually be barred or dismissed.
