In Kentucky, it is against the law to leave the scene of a motor vehicle accident (this includes collisions with individuals riding a bike). In fact, it is considered a Class D felony to leave the scene of a hit-and-run accident if a death or serious physical injury is involved. For a Class D Felony, a defendant can be sentenced to between one and five years in prison and fined up to $10,000.00. Per Kentucky statute, an operator of a motor vehicle involved in a crash must stop, ascertain the extent of injury, and render reasonable assistance.

If anyone has any information about this unfortunate incident or knows the identity of the two hit-and-run drivers, please call the anonymous Crime Tip Hotline at 502-574-LMPD (5673) or report the time on the online Crime Tip at LMPD Crime Tip Portal.
